This course supports learners in developing the knowledge, skills and practical competence required to carry out fire risk assessments in moderate risk premises.
Aligned with the criteria set out in BS 8673:2025, the qualification builds on the foundations of a Level 3 Fire Risk Assessment qualification and prepares learners to undertake assessments at an intermediate professional level.
The programme combines technical knowledge, professional development and practical application to ensure learners can carry out fire risk assessments confidently, competently and in line with current legislation and standards.
Learners completing the Diploma may further specialise in areas such as residential buildings, heritage properties, construction environments or health and care premises.

Understanding fire safety requirements in buildings, including structural fire protection, fire detection systems and fire safety management.

This course is designed for fire safety professionals who already hold a Level 3 qualification in fire risk assessment and wish to develop the competence required to assess moderate-risk premises.
There are no formal entry requirements, however learners are expected to have completed a Level 3 fire safety qualification and have practical experience of fire risk assessments. Learners must also be working in a role where they can undertake assessments in moderate-risk premises and be at least 18 years old.
Learners develop a portfolio of evidence including written assignments and documented fire risk assessments completed in moderate-risk premises.
Learners may progress to advanced qualifications such as the SFJ Level 5 Diploma in Fire Risk Assessment or the SFJ Level 5 Diploma in Fire Engineering Design.
