As it is currently stress awareness month, Compass have been thinking of different ways to take part and in particular focus on this year’s theme, which is community.
One way we have taken part is by holding a staff lunch this week to give staff an opportunity to take some well deserved time out from their work day, relax, and to enjoy some good food provided by Lucy in the hospitality department. Everyone there enjoyed a Mexican style buffet with cookies and brownie cupcakes to enjoy afterwards. It can be tricky finding a date everyone can be available on, so it was great to see so many attend – even the youngest (honorary) member of Compass, Lola!

“A community is much more than just a group of people. It’s about having a sense of belonging and connection to others and feel supported and accepted by them… People who are more socially connected to family, friends, or their community are happier, physically healthier and live longer, with fewer mental health problems than people who are less well connected.” – The Stress Management Society

Another way we are taking part in stress awareness month is by challenging ourselves as a team to get our steps in – the goal will be to see if we can collectively get in enough steps throughout April to walk the equivalent of hiking to Stuttgart, Germany! So far we are about 20% of the way to our goal!
Getting to know the people in our workplace community a little better helps to foster good working relationships and better mental health within the workplace. The Stress Management Society says that “a community is much more than just a group of people. It’s about having a sense of belonging and connection to others and feel supported and accepted by them… People who are more socially connected to family, friends, or their community are happier, physically healthier and live longer, with fewer mental health problems than people who are less well connected.”
