The flu season of 2021/22 is predicted to be especially severe due to the strict restrictions. including social distancing and mask regulation, that were in place last winter. The hygiene and safety precautions may have lowered the transmission of COVID-19, but have also lowered our exposure to many viruses and bacteria, causing a fall in immunity levels needed to fight certain illnesses. We understand the importance (now more than ever) of a healthy workforce. We cannot afford a flu outbreak on top of the pandemic – not only could it overwhelm the NHS and healthcare resources, but it could have severe consequences of a person who might catch both at once.

The flu is a common contagious respiratory illness caused by a viral infection of the nose, throat and lungs. Hundreds of thousands of people fall ill with the flu every single year. For most people, the flu virus causes only a mild illness that clears up in about a week. However, in others it can cause a more severe illness, and can be fatal.

Alongside the COVID-19 presence in the UK and across the world, it has never been more important to ensure you and our workforce are protected from the flu with the annual flu vaccine.

Why should I vaccinate my workforce?

In the UK, millions of working days are lost due to ill health caused by the flu, with around 15-20% of the population becoming infected in a normal year. This costs employers over £29 billion every year in the UK, due to absence costs, productivity levels and sick pay. On an individual basis, flu can cost businesses an average of £522 per person – this is expected to rise during the coming flu season. Research has also concluded that the widespread use of the flu vaccine in the UK could save the economy up to £28.9 billion in sick day costs, in addition to increased workplace productivity levels.

While no one can be forced to have the vaccine, vaccinating your workforce is the most cost-effective way to reduce the impact of the influenza virus could have on your business and protect your staff from the onset of illness. Reduce the risk of illness and employee absence with our Corporate Flu Vaccination service.
