This summer, many smaller employers (those with an annual pay bill of less than £3 million) will be using the apprenticeship service for the first time to pay for training new recruits and upskilling existing staff.
Get ready now
To meet the eligibility criteria for the incentive payment for hiring a new apprentice, smaller employers need to prepare as soon as possible:
- Create an apprenticeship service account. The time needed to set up an account varies depending on each employer’s situation. See this step-by-step guide on Registering an account
- Reserve apprenticeship funds. You need to reserve funds through the apprenticeship service before training begins. This support video Reserving apprenticeship funds provides a step-by-step guide. If you grant Compass permission to do this, you can then just approve all actions
- Advertise apprenticeship opportunities. If you are recruiting apprentices, you can add these opportunities under ‘Your apprenticeship adverts’ in your apprenticeship service account. The opportunities will be published on Find an apprenticeship. There is a new support video Recruiting an apprentice providing a step-by-step guide.
