The Level 2 Award in Introduction to First Aid for Mental Health is a qualification aimed at individuals who intend to have responsibility for the wellbeing and mental health of colleagues in the workplace.
This accreditedĀ two-dayĀ training course provides underpinning knowledge and understanding of the principles of first aid for mental health. This includes recognising mental ill health in self and others, supporting mental wellbeing in the workplace, understanding how to promote a wellness culture in the workplace and the importance of resilience and self-care for first aiders for mental health.Ā Ā
The role of a first aider for mental health is to provide basic mental health support or to be the first response to someone in need. The first aider for mental health is not clinically qualified to assess, diagnose or treat mental ill health but they will know the basic tools to listen to individuals who require first response support for their mental health.
By the end of the training, learners will:
- Understand mental health and wellbeing
- Understand how mental ill health affects the experience of individuals
- Understand the mental health continuum
- Understand ways to self-manage own wellbeing
- Understand the principles of first aid for mental health
- Know how to recognise mental ill health in self and others
- Understand how to support mental wellbeing in the workplace
- Understand how to promote a mental wellness culture in the workplace
- Understand the importance of resilience and protection of self for first aiders for mental health

Upon successful completion of two multiple-choice assessments, a certificate will be issued by Highfield Qualifications.
There are no specific entry requirements, but it is important that learners have a suitable standard of English language in order to understand and articulate the concepts contained in the syllabus.

Our training centre in Chorley is fully accessible with the main training room located on the ground floor. There is a wheelchair accessible toilet on the ground floor and a wheelchair accessible lift to the first floor.
Yes, within the cost of the course there is a hot lunch, hot and cold drinks and biscuits for those attending in person.
If you are attending our Hybrid course and would prefer to split the payment for this course you can pay in 2 or 3 instalments, as long as the final payment is made before you take the exam.Ā Please call our admin team who can set this up for you.Ā Please note there is an additional admin fee of Ā£50 added to the first instalment for this option.
