Compass Celebrates First Learner in the UK to Complete the Level 3 Certificate for Occupational Health Technicians
After enrolling on the Level 3 Certificate for Occupational Health Technicians (accredited by Open Awards), learner Stacey Armstrong has become the first person to complete this qualification in the UK, and in under 6 months!
Compass became the first training provider to deliver the Level 3 Certificate for Occupational Health Technicians, after it was developed in association with the Society of Occupational Medicine (SoM), Public Health Wales, and Occupational Health Specialists. It is the first, Ofqual regulated qualification for Occupational Health Technicians, helping to standardise OHT training by providing a nationally recognised standard, making Stacey’s achievement even more outstanding.
Stacey Discusses Her Experience as an Occupational Health Technician
“As an Occupational Health Technician, I am responsible for performing health surveillance and health screening checks for a range of council workers; we are a small team that are based on site and have a range of medical staff working in the department. I enjoy meeting all the staff from the different areas of the council and enjoy giving advice and feedback on health checks and lifestyle issues. I have worked in occupational health now for three years and I have enjoyed my experiences so far.
My previous experience and qualifications include a BSc in Sport and Exercise Science and teaching in further education. I also have a range of coaching and fitness qualifications. I think my previous experiences along with my knowledge and skills, are very transferrable to this role and so it was quite a smooth transition into occupational health. I would like to progress my career by pursuing more opportunities within the council, who are a fantastic employer; they have invested in my learning and development by supporting me with this qualification, which in turn supports the occupational health department.
It was a lot of hard work to achieve this qualification, but it has been worth it! The resources were excellent, and the tutors were always available to help with coursework. By achieving this qualification, it recognises the higher level you are working at as an OHT, and it has lifetime validity which is great for your employers.”
