DURATION Typically 12 months, excluding End Point Assessment
ADDED VALUE Compass include the L3 Certificate in Vocational Achievement (CAVA) or the L3 Assessing Competence in the Work Environment upon completion of the apprenticeship, certificated by NOCN.
SUMMARY The role of the learning and skills assessor can be found in all sectors where learning, training and development is required. For example, healthcare, education or construction. The main purpose of this occupation is to assess candidates against agreed standards of competence using a range of assessment methods.
INTAKE DATES We are now accepting Expressions of Interest for a cohort to commence in January 2026. We need a minimum of 10 learners to confirm the intake date. To Express an Interest please complete this form.
Individual employers may set any entry requirements which may include:
- A qualification, at an appropriate level, and relevant up-to-date experience in the candidate’s vocational/subject specialism.
- Have access to their own students / learners to assess against agreed competency standards.
- Be aged over 19 years old
Candidates may have achieved maths, English and ICT skills at Level 2 (equivalent to GCSE Grade C, or above) prior to commencing their training. Those that have not will be provided with support should they want to achieve this.
The learning and skills assessor plans and carries out assessment activities and completes records of assessment decisions.
They support the progression of the learner through feedback on assessment decisions and by setting ongoing realistic learning goals and referral to other professionals if required. THey will contribute to the quality cycle of the organisation and actively contribute to standardisation and moderation of assessment decisions. They will have a strong commitment to their own continual professional development to maintain occupational competency in their sector and be able to work with minimal supervision.
End Point Assessment will consist of 2 elements:
- Observation
- Professional discussion underpinned by a portfolio of evidence
Full support will be provided to candidates during the Gateway period at the end of their Apprenticeship to prepare them for this End Point Assessment.
£5000 paid via the apprenticeship service account.
Employer contribution is 5% or £250 (only payable by employers who do not pay the apprenticeship levy.
