This Manual Handling training course is designed to provide instruction in the principles of safe handling techniques and explain the legislative and physiological factors affecting manual handling operations.
Course Objectives
Upon completion of the course, delegates should be able to:
- Understand the need for good manual handling practices
- Know how to pick up a load and put it down correctly
- Perform basic tasks such as turning with a load
Course Overview
This practical manual handling training course will include: –
- Brief description of the spine, spinal column and nervous system
- Physical effects of poor lifting technique
- Outline of the type of gloves, overalls and safety footwear required for manual handling
- A description of the way in which lifting and handling should be carried out
- Practical exercise covering the lifting and movement of loads and the necessary body movements to allow safe turning when carrying a load
