NEBOSH have announced that the first open book exam for the National General Certificate will be on Thursday 6th August 2020. This will be open to any learner planning to sit an NG1 examination.
For the open book exam, a scenario will be provided describing a realistic organisation or workplace with an outline of general operational activities and worker behaviour. The scenario may then go on to outline a developing situation, such as an incident or safety intervention. The learner will then be asked to carry out a series of tasks based on this scenario. The available marks for each task or sub-task will be specified to enable learners to manage their time. Answers need to be relevant to the scenario and, in some cases, specific evidence will be required to support answers. If you would like a copy of the example open book exam, please contact us.
Learner will be provided with 24 hours to research and complete the examination. The assessment can be completed at home or work.
A closing interview will also be held with the learner to confirm their understanding and ensure the assessment is the learner’s own work.
Learners will need to register for the exam, through a NEBOSH learning partner, such as Compass, and provide an accurate, unique email address to register for the exam, they will then receive an email from NEBOSH with a dedicated, secure username and password to log in to the online examination platform and access the Open Book Exam (OBE).
