Level 3 Certificate in Fire Risk Assessment

The Level 3 Certificate in Fire Risk Assessment is for learners who wish to carry out effective fire risk assessments in low-risk premises.
This qualification provides learners with the knowledge and skills to do so, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and best practice.
Learners will be able to understand the roles and responsibilities of fire risk assessors, principles of fire development and spread, fire prevention, human behaviour in fire situations and the application of both passive and active fire protection measures.
Learners will develop the competence to assess fire hazards, evaluate existing fire safety measures, recommend improvements and
produce clear, compliant reports, while maintaining professional and ethical
standards in line with current fire safety legislation and guidance.
This course has 4 mandatory units:
Understand the role and responsibilities of fire risk assessors.
- Understand the moral and professional standards required from fire risk assessors and associated fire industry specialists.
- Understand how to work in a safe and ethical manner.
- Understand the legislative framework fire risk assessors operate within.
- Understand the relationship with enforcing and regulatory authorities.
Understand fire development and
spread, prevention principles and human behaviour in fire.
- Understand fire prevention principles and best practices.
- Understand principles of combustion and fire development & spread.
- Understand fire risk assessment methodologies and control mechanisms to reduce risk.
- Understand human behaviour in a fire situation.
Understand fire protection, means of escape and associated management systems within low-risk premises.
- Understand passive fire safety systems to protect life in low-risk premises.
- Understand active fire safety systems to protect life in low-risk premises.
- Understand the requirements to secure safe means of escape in low-risk premises.
- Understand external fire spread and development in low-risk premises.
- Understand fire safety management in low-risk premises.
Carry out fire risk assessments in low risk premises.
- Be able to plan visits to premises for the purpose of fire risk assessment.
- Be able to carry out Fire Risk Assessment observations in premises.
- Be able to carry out post fire risk assessment observation administration work.
After completing the above modules, learners must put together a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate their competence. Examples of evidence that can be included are: plans, reports, budgets, photographs, videos or notes of an event.
SFJ Awards specifies that the Level 3 Certificate in Fire Risk Assessment is recommended to learners aged 18 years and over. The qualification is regulated in England and Wales.
SFJ Awards support the use of RPL (recognised prior learning). Please get in touch if you wish to discuss this.
Learners are expected to be able to demonstrate their capabilities at their own workplace.

This course is delivered via 5 days online classroom attendance, followed by completion of an online portfolio (done in the learner’s own time) and an observation by a tutor.
The total time to complete will be around 3 months. Personalised learning plans will be given to learners after their initial assessments.
This qualification creates a number of opportunities for progression, for example:
- Employment as a fire risk assessor
- Better roles within fire safety management.
- Further study in fire safety or health and safety at higher levels e.g. fire engineering, fire protection systems or advanced fire risk assessment for complex premises.
- Membership with professional bodies relevant to fire safety
- Pursuing specialist areas within the fire safety industry.

Our training centre in Chorley is fully accessible with the main training room located on the ground floor. There is a wheelchair accessible toilet on the ground floor and a wheelchair accessible lift to the first floor.
Yes, within the cost of the course there is a buffet lunch, hot and cold drinks and biscuits for those attending in person.
If you are attending our Hybrid course and would prefer to split the payment for this course you can pay in 2 or 3 instalments, as long as the final payment is made before you take the exam. Please call our admin team who can set this up for you. Please note there is an additional admin fee of £50 added to the first instalment for this option.
