SUMMARY The occupation of Fire Safety Inspector can be found in the Fire and Rescue sector. The fire and rescue sector is formed of three elements, prevention, protection and response. The occupation of fire safety inspector is a specialist role within the protection element, linking closely with the other two elements of protection and response.
The broad purpose of the occupation is to assess the level of fire safety in the built environment in their area and instigate improvements, where necessary, to preserve life, to reduce damage to property and the environment and to support economic growth.
PROFESSIONAL MEMBERSHIP Learners will join Institution of Fire Engineers as a student member and develop their skills to achieve membership upon completion of their course.
INTAKE DATES January and September each year
Individual employers will set their own selection criteria for this apprenticeship. Typically an apprentice might be expected to have achieved or working towards 5 GCSEs A* to C including English and Maths as well as having knowledge to Level 1 equivalent for commonly used office computer applications.
This is a Level 4 apprenticeship and learners must have an appropriate standard of prior knowledge (either Level 3 qualification or relevant experience) before starting this apprenticeship.

Students will have the option at the end of their qualification to take the NEBOSH Fire Certificate exam. (Exam costs are not included).
End Point Assessment will consist of 3 elements:
- Knowledge test
- Practical assessment
- Professional discussion
Full support will be provided to candidates during the Gateway period at the end of their Apprenticeship to prepare them for this End Point Assessment.
£11000 paid via the apprenticeship service account.
Employer contribution is 5% or £550 (only payable by employers who do not pay the apprenticeship levy)
