This NVQ Level 6 Health and Safety is specific to people who are actively involved in the practice or management of health and safety as part of their job. The Institution of Occupational Safety & Health (IOSH) accepts this qualification for membership at Graduate level (GradIOSH). The International Institute of Risk and Safety Management (IIRSM) accept this qualification for full Member status (MIIRSM).
The NVQ Level 6 Health and Safety qualification is a highly practical programme, and one of our team of assessors will assist you to build a portfolio of work based evidence. Our approach is one-to-one, and we structure our programme to suit your needs as a busy health and safety practitioner.
Unlike traditional classroom other health and safety training courses Diploma, the NVQ Level 6 Health and Safety qualification is work based, and involves the collection of evidence from your normal day to day activities. This will probably be individuals who have already acquired some experience and are able to influence the health and safety policy and practice of their organisation.
There are ten individual units that must be completed to obtain the NVQ Diploma Level 6 in Occupational Health and Safety Practice:
• Promote a positive health and safety culture
• Develop and maintain individual and organisational competence in health and safety matters
• Identify, assess and control health and safety risks
• Develop and implement proactive monitoring systems for health and safety
• Develop and implement reactive monitoring systems for health and safety
• Develop and implement health and safety emergency response systems and procedures
• Develop and implement health and safety review systems
• Maintain knowledge of improvements to influence health and safety practice
• Develop and implement effective communication systems for health and safety information
• Develop and implement the health and safety policy
Candidates can easily upload evidence into the Compass online learning platform, MyKademy. Entry dates are flexible, and you can enrol at any point of the year. Contact with your assessor will be via e-mail or telephone and they will visit you at your place of work to observe you and give support. The NVQ Level 6 Health and Safety is principally a distance learning type approach with no need to attend specific dates.
There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification; however candidates must be in a role that allows them to collect the required evidence. It would be advisable for candidates to already hold a health and safety qualification for example a General Certificate.
Our health and safety consultants are qualified and experienced health and safety professionals with a background in vocational health and safety training and assessment.
You will have an allocated assessor who will work with you to collect your portfolio of evidence. They will be your dedicated point of contact, available by telephone or email.
There are no specific entry requirements for this qualification, although candidates must by in a suitable role for them to gather the evidence and gain the experience to allow them to complete it.

When you enrol, you are provided with a logon to our online platform. This guides you through:
- Your induction and introduction to your qualification
- Some reading material followed by questions you need to answer
- What documents you need to upload
- Your site visit requirements
- Your Assessor gets in touch within 7-10 days of your enrolment and will then give you feedback on how you’re doing each step of the way, until your completion.
Your portfolio is managed on our online Learning Platform. We have a dedicated Customer Service team in case you run into any difficulties who can talk you through how it works. There are also some helpful videos along the way to give you some hints and tips.
The qualification is completed and assessed in English although we will make every effort to accommodate any special requirements you have.
All registration fees, travel expenses and vat is included in the price. You have access to the online portfolio system for 12 months. If you have not completed by this time you will need to pay an additional £25/month for continued access.
Any additional needs you have will be addressed by your assessor in your initial assessment, and reasonable adjustments can be made by your assessor in order to support you to complete your qualification.
This depends on each individual. The average completion for a Level 6 is 3-6 months. You are supported by your Assessor for twelve months after which you will be dormant on our system – but you have up to three years to compete your qualification.
